Ginne Marker sends charming songs out in VEGA
Ginne Marker is back with new energy, new music, and a brand new band after more than a year away from the stages. Her elastic vocals and her extraordinary ability to communicate have prompted critics to draw parallels to great singers like Eva Cassidy, Joni Mitchell, and Jeff Buckley.
Marker's presence and empathy go straight to the heart. It's about an artist who not only makes an effort but also possesses authenticity and undeniable nerve. She most recently released the live EP Past Presence last year.
The singer debuted in 2019 with the album, For Seasons to Come, to an excellent reception, securing her the Newcomer of the Year and Composer of the Year at the Carl Prize 2020.
While the debut offered an organic, subdued singer/songwriter universe, the follow-up from 2021, ULTERIA, showed that Ginne Marker excels at drawing on elements from different genres, where the story always stands clearest.
Music magazine Gaffa sent six hearts in the direction of the album and wrote the following in their review:
“But the whole, which genre-wise is a thoughtful and original mix of folk-rock, acoustic pop, and vocal jazz, has all the spices that make the experience sensual. I simply don't understand how one person can possess so much talent. She has hit rock bottom – both for personal reasons and as a result of the pandemic – and now rises like a Phoenix; one of the most obvious talents in the Danish music scene over the last ten years.”
With more than 15 million streams, several awards, and several sold-out, nationwide tours, Ginne Marker has not only cemented her skills in songwriting but also her value as one of this generation's strongest artists on the country's stages.
