A Colossal Weekend

A Colossal Weekend is a boutique festival located in the center of Copenhagen, catering for genre pushing, experimental music within the realm of ‘heavy’.

Every year the festival presents an extensive lineup consisting of well-established acts as well as never-before-heard constellations and newcomers on the scene.

The festival takes place from May 16-18 2024 at VEGA and surrounding venues at Vesterbro, Copenhagen. The partout ticket is sold-out. One-day tickets are still available.

The lineup for Thursday is:

Gaerea (POR)
In the shape of beautifully embroidered calligraphy, Gaerea’s undying sigil opens a portal into the void – a liable alternative to a collapsed society. Their black metal is a chaotic whirlwind, a sonic-monolithic menace, a dissonant weapon embracing hopelessness. The title of the album Limbo (2020) denominates the rite de passage in which hierarchy and law temporarily dissolve, and where the destiny of humanity remains an untold tale. At their album, Mirage (2022), shines a glimmer of hope – a long-wanted catharsis, perhaps, or, as the title suggests, merely mirages?

Katla (DK)
Although Katla only have a few years behind them as a band, they have managed to carve a solid name for themselves on the Danish metal scene. We are very proud to call Katla one of our artists in residence. Like the dragon of the same name, Katla fires up a burning flame of hell-fire that will scorch the entire stage. It's heavy and uncompromising doom, blasting away with full force. Katla consists of three good friends and ruthless musicians, a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer/singer. There are no tricks up their sleeves, just rock-solid, murky doom made with lots of love and Satan.

Kollapse (DK)
Beauty and terror coexist as Kollapse dig into the fabric of existence, a frail creature hopelessly aware of its own mortality. Breathe. Inhale, exhale. Building of tension, release of tension. A pulsating body. In a crossbreed of noise rock, sludge and experimental metal, the band embodies a gnarled feeling of emptiness deep in the pit of your stomach releasing a tortured scream … While at the floor, you will find yourself slowly drowning in sonic viscera.

Mortiferum (US) will drag you down into the darkness. Their blaring and aggressive death/doom combines ferocious death metal with heavy, almost mournful doom and creates a soundscape that will attack all your senses. Their latest release, the critically acclaimed album Preserved in Torment from 2021 is a test of strength in madness with reviewers calling it muddy and disgusting. In a good way. Mortiferum is not for the faint of heart, but as soon as they get on stage, they’ll grab the audience by the throat and deliver a blast of a concert which will probably crack a few skulls along the way.

Offernat (DK)
The characteristic soundscapes of the Danish duo Offernat draw inspiration from a range of doom, sludge and black metal and deliver long structures of melody overflowing with anger and melancholy. Offernat invites us on an unpredictable journey into the darkness of their music. Through chaotic transitions and crushing aggression, the band and audience will rise from the dust together and create a community where the most extreme parts of metal music will reach whole new emotional depths.

Wolves In The Throne Room (US)
A throne room overrun with wolves is a ruined throne room. Criminals beyond the law, wolves symbolize revolt, as philosopher the wolf is an icon of critical reflection. As a wild animal, the sight of wolves erupts a basic anxiety: How did the wolves become kings and queens? On their latest EP, Crypt of Ancestral Knowledge (2023), Wolves add psychedelic and industrial depth to their atmospheric, folk - inspired and majestic black metal. You are invited to a musical - hallucinatory trip in which the wolf - regents will reconnect to unfathomable wisdoms of the past.
