Hudson Freeman is just getting startes. The Brooklyn-based lo-fi folk songwriter had his breakthrough last year with “If You Know Me” – a hypnotic blend of folk, bedroom pop, slowcore and post-emo, driven by a simple yet instantly catchy guitar riff.

The demo quickly went viral, introducing Freeman to a much wider audience and helping set the course for what came next.

Freeman’s music is difficult to pin down. Drawing inspiration from Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver and Pedro the Lion, his songs explore faith, belonging, identity, and the distinctly modern feeling of being connected to everyone – while somehow still feeling completely alone.

On his 2025 album Is a Folk Artist, he brings these themes to life in a distinctive and intimate folk universe, where lo-fi aesthetics meet memorable melodies and deeply personal storytelling.

The path that led him there, however, is anything but conventional.

Freeman was born in Texas to evangelical missionary parents and moved with his family to Eswatini in southern Africa at the age of 13. The life-changing move marked the beginning of his songwriting journey.

His religious upbringing has continued to leave a clear imprint on his music, as he explores his relationship with religion, fleeting friendships, and the search for belonging in an increasingly digital world.

In 2026, Freeman hit the road, performing at festivals including Luck Reunion and Newport Folk Festival. He has also supported artists such as Mumford & Sons and Foxwarren, while playing sold-out headline shows across both the US and Europe.

After a year in which “If You Know Me” firmly put his name on the map, Hudson Freeman is now ready for the next chapter – with new music on the way and a headline show at VEGA on February 18, 2027.
