Get your hip joints lubricated with Jembaa Groove in VEGA
In a strange mix of polyrhythmic grooves and West African highlife, the band blends elements of crisp American 70s soul and jazz. The elixir is extremely potent and goes straight to the dancing feet.
This spring, the band is ready to write another amazing musical chapter when they release brand new tracks. This time, they dive into Jembaa Groove into Lagos' vibrant Afro-fusion scene.
In collaboration with Nigerian highlife experts The Cavemen, they have created a modern interpretation of Highlife, jazz and Afrobeats. On the new releases, listeners can experience guest appearances from Malian icon Fatoumata Diawara, up-and-coming Nigerian singer Tim Lyre and London-based soul artist Azekel.
The band started their musical journey in Berlin back in 2020, when bassist and composer Yannick Nolting and percussionist, vocalist and songwriter Eric Owusu found a strong connection in West African music.
Last year was a whirlwind for the party starters, who toured extensively in the US, played countless sold-out shows in Europe and delivered unforgettable memories at festivals such as Lowlands, MTN Bushfire and Xjazz. Over the years, Jembaa Groove has positioned itself as one of the most vital and influential ambassadors within the Afro-jazz movement.
On November 6th, they will light up the November darkness in Lille VEGA.
