Loke Deph delivers hip-hop from the underground
Loke Deph has been called the of Danish rap – because he comes from the underground, kicks in the door in poetic clogs and impresses with laid-back, alternative hip-hop.
Because even though a Google search for the Danish rapper doesn't yield many hits, he's not new to the scene. His surprising flows and well-placed punchlines have landed with those who know what's going on outside the commercial rap scene. And with great success.
Loke Deph has a long discography of almost frighteningly sharp guest spots behind him - some would call him Denmark's most in-demand guest rapper. In February 2020, his debut album was released Vor Frelser, a few months later he was the only featured rapper on SULKA's debut album. Then followed a series of years of sold-out shows at Lille VEGA. And now he's headlining at Store VEGA.
Loke Deph really made his mark as one of the great poets of the underground with the EP releases Beluga and Mølstrom back in 2016.
An impressed reviewer from GAFFA gave it 5 stars and said:
“His ability to elevate everyday life to poetry is magnificent. It's as if the non-subsistence existence gains substance through words. (...) It's life-affirming to experience a rapper who is at once as honest and sensitive as he is wild and violent.”
Loke Deph works at the intersection of jazz, lo-fi and an electronic sound; an expression that both challenges and sustains. The music moves between the intimate and the intense and is often built on dusty beats, atmospheric layers of background vocals and quirky, unpredictable linguistic details.
