Sonic whirlwinds rage in VEGA with Oranssi Pazuzu
Named after cosmic energy and an ancient Mesopotamian wind demon, Finland’s dark masters Oranssi Pazuzu have forged a kaleidoscopic genre fusion entirely their own, blending psych, krautrock, and metal into something truly otherworldly.
The band is renowned for their live performances, where time and space seem to dissolve into the black holes the quintet conjures musically. An Oranssi Pazuzu show is not merely a concert — it is a ritual unleashed the moment the amplifiers roar to life.
Oranssi Pazuzu seamlessly fuse icy Scandinavian black metal with the psychedelic pulse of 1970s krautrock, hypnotic doom, and avant-garde jazz structures. The result is an intense, cinematic, and almost claustrophobically beautiful experience that feels like the soundtrack to a sci-fi horror unfolding in deep space.
Bassist Toni "Ontto" Hietamäki has described the band’s music as “a psychic storm” — something that suddenly turns wild, untamable, and vividly colourful all at once. When the band performed at A Colossal Weekend at VEGA last year, they left both audiences and critics stunned by the sheer intensity and presence of their performance.
The Danish music magazine GAFFA awarded them five stars, writing: “It is an insane concert. Not the kind of insanity built on shock value, but the kind that crawls beneath your skin because it constantly mutates and transforms. At no point does it feel contrived or calculated; it comes completely naturally to the group.”
For more than 15 years, the Finnish five-piece have shattered the boundaries of black metal, creating a cosmic vacuum entirely their own. On October 21, they will pull listeners into a whirlwind of hypnotic basslines, biting guitar riffs, space-rock synths, and raw metallic aggression.
