One of the dark jazz scene's most distinctive and innovative names in VEGA
The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble For more than two decades, they have been sending out music that feels like small dreamlike circuits, where the boundary between the surreal and the real is blurred and dissolved.
The band stands in the spotlight at Lille VEGA on October 27, and here the audience is invited into a hypnotic universe, where ambient, doom, jazz, post-rock and experimental electronica merge into dark and atmospheric compositions.
Founded in 2000 by Jason Köhnen and Gideon Kiers, the project took its first steps as live interpretations of silent film classics such as Metropolis and Nosferatu. From that starting point, the ensemble experienced creative growth and quickly emerged as one of the dark jazz scene's most distinctive and innovative names.
With Hilary Jeffery (trombone and effects), Charlotte Cegarra (vocals) and Eelco Bosman (guitar) as part of the constellation, the group developed a distinctive musical expression where collective improvisation and cinematic aesthetics go hand in hand.
The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble is particularly known for their intense live concerts, where abstract film projections and dreamy visuals merge with the ensemble's dark and atmospheric soundscapes.
When they visit VEGA, a concert is set to take shape as an alluring and enigmatic universe.
