Alternative Australian rock legends Dirty Three takes on Store VEGA
For four decades, Dirty Three has stood as a monumental and unwavering artistic rock in the Australian music landscape.
Since violinist and pianist Warren Ellis, Mick Turner (guitar, organ, bass) and drummer Jim White founded the group in 1992, it has achieved legendary status for its style-defining compositions in the borderland between noise, melancholy, improvisation, jazz, post-rock and folk songs.
The discography includes nine albums, including the masterpiece Ocean Songs from 1998 has formed a school for generations of alternative rock bands and experimental musicians. That Dirty Three has established its name far beyond the borders of its home country is emphasized by the fact that the group has toured internationally and shared the stage with Sonic Youth, John Cale, Pavement and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, among others.
Warren Ellis is a regular member of the latter band, known for his blistering violin performances, and has been a regular collaborator with Nick Cave on album and soundtrack releases for many years. Mick Turner works alongside the project as a producer and visual artist, while Jim White has worked with names such as Cat Power, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile.
After a 12-year album hiatus, Dirty Three returned in 2024 with the album Love Changes Everything – and the reception was ecstatic! Popmatters gave it a 9 out of 10, Uncut characterized the sound as “My Bloody Valentine reinventing themselves as a folk group”, while Pitchfork gave it an 8.0 and called it “some of the most beautiful and emotional work of the group's career”.
It is thus a group of seasoned legends in absolute top form who will give a rare Danish concert when they take over Store VEGA on November 2.
