Irish post-punk heirs to the throne smash VEGA in half
They have been praised by the leading NME and Clash Magazine for their eminent ear for melodic post punk, which, with equal parts lyrical depth, humor and sensibility, strikes a very special nerve.
This March, the band The Clockworks will follow-up their amazing debut album Exit Strategy. The upcoming release has been titled The Entertainment, and according to the band, the release is a commentary on consumerism and the isolation and distance many experience in our high-tech world.
In stark contrast to their debut album, which was recorded in collaboration with Bernard Butler (Suede) over a few weeks, the band spent several months on the new album refining the soundscape with inspiration deeply rooted in films like Blade Runner and Drive. The quartet says about the album in the press release:
"Our first album was pretty much four lads in a room making noise, but this album has so much piano, synths, string arrangements, found sounds, weird noise. We grew up with The Strokes and The Libertines, but we have too much interest in other things to contain ourselves to that."
The Clockworks described themselves as “the punk rock version of the Streets” in a message to legendary record label owner Alan McGee (Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine, Oasis). Shortly thereafter, McGee was on a plane to Ireland to sign them and catapult them onto the airwaves and the big live stages.

The concert is supported by Liveurope. Liveurope is the first pan-European initiative supporting concert venues in their efforts to promote emerging European artists. Liveurope is co-funded by the EU's Creative Europe programme.
