The blackgaze pioneers from MØL are making waves this fall in VEGA
After two critically acclaimed releases, Jord (2019) and Diorama (2021), MØL return with their latest album, DREAMCRUSH (2026), which arrived earlier this year.
Released via the influential label Nuclear Blast, DREAMCRUSH places the duality of dreams at its core. Across the album’s 11 tracks, the lightness and escapism of dreams are set against the weight and expectations of reality.
Loss and grief also play a central role throughout the album, but the band emphasize in a press statement that DREAMCRUSH is far from a bleak record. On the contrary, the release is ultimately rooted in joy, reconciliation, and acceptance.
MØL’s sonic universe draws inspiration from artists such as My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, and The Smashing Pumpkins, shaping a sound best described as blackgaze.
MØL channel the blackgaze genre by infusing even their most aggressive musical moments with a strong melodic sensibility. Crushing black metal compositions unfold into soaring alternative hooks, threaded with elements of indie pop and shoegaze — a balance the band masterfully command throughout the album. DREAMCRUSH was reviewed by GAFFA, who awarded it five sparkling stars and hailed the band as pioneers. In the review, GAFFA wrote:
“From a Danish perspective, MØL are true pioneers and are signed to the world’s biggest metal label, Nuclear Blast, for good reason.”
In a recent press statement, MØL described their live performances as both a space for catharsis and a ritual of confession. On October 16, audiences will be able to witness this firsthand when MØL tear through the grainy darkness of October.
