Mercedess drapes VEGA in honest lyrics and strong pop hooks
With his second album, I'd love to be a star, but I'm tired as fuck, invites Mercedess the listener into a vulnerable and sleepless pop universe.
The album depicts a period of depression and exhaustion, with the songs acting as fragments from a shatteringly honest diary. Somewhere between brain rot, burnout and big pop hooks, Mercedes' words focus on the feeling of having to be on all the time.
The album, which was released on May 15, has already received several rave reviews. Soundvenue gave it five stars and wrote:
“It is felt deep into the soul of 'the burnout generation' when Danish Mercedess sings about the burnout that the music industry and our SoMe-brain-rot world creates, while she playfully mixes organic and electronic elements in a dark and brave alt-pop universe.”
In Mercedes's sonic universe, a cappella moments, heavy 808s and intimate confessions flow together in songs that oscillate between breakdown and self-staging; a sound reminiscent of early Billie Eilish and Lorde.
In 2022, she got her first P3's Uundgåelige with the single “Obvious”, and then another one followed with the Prisma collaboration “Bangs”. This fall, the audience can experience the critically acclaimed album live when Mercedess gives free rein to her emotions at Ideal Bar in Copenhagen on November 11th.
