Feel your pulse drop with Morcheeba in Store VEGA
Thirty years ago, Ross Godfrey and Skye Edwards met by chance at a party in South London. Shortly afterwards, they were sitting in Godfrey's flat in Dalston, where Edwards played him a song on guitar. At the time, she had no ambition to sound like anyone in particular – and perhaps that was the beginning of Morcheeba's very own sound universe.
Since then, the two have been through three decades of musical detours, eleven studio albums, more than 10 million albums sold and countless world tours. Along the way, Morcheeba moved effortlessly between trip hop, soul, electronic music and organic instruments, but one thing has been constant: the music has always had its own ability to slow the pulse.
On the duo's latest album, Escape The Chaos, from 2025 it becomes clear that calm does not necessarily mean silence. The album moves from the dreamy and almost floating to heavy beats, psychedelic guitars and soul-inspired melodies. Several of the songs also emerged through joint jam sessions with members of the band's live formation – including Skye Edwards' son Jaega on drums and her husband Steve Gordon on bass.
Morcheeba have recently cemented their status as one of the UK's most enduring electronic acts with an invitation from Chaka Khan to headline her Meltdown Festival in London. But perhaps it's less interesting how far Morcheeba can go. What's interesting is where they can take their audience.
Because when Morcheeba takes the stage, it's not just about 30 years of musical history. It's about stepping out of the pace for a while. About warm vocals, deep grooves and melodies that are allowed to linger. And about escaping the chaos – just for one night.
