Bess Atwell’s crystal-clear vocals enrich Ideal Bar
British artist Bess Atwell is currently promoting her latest single, “The Act”, an atmospheric pop track with clear references to the 80s, written during her time living in Quebec.
In search of new perspectives, the singer decided to leave the familiar behind and spontaneously moved to Canada, where she lived for nine months.
The new surroundings and creative processes became the catalyst for one of her most fully realised and honest albums to date, Cut a Figure.
The upcoming album, her fourth to date, does more than simply scratch the surface. Atwell delves deep into a lifetime of relationships, decisions and motivations.
Atwell has long been known for her ability to portray emotions with great precision and sensitivity. Through her music, she has explored complex subjects such as family conflicts, heartbreak and bitterness with remarkable empathy.
On Cut a Figure, however, she turns her gaze inward, exploring how her own way of processing emotions, particularly anger, has evolved.
Atwell received widespread critical acclaim for her previous album, Light Sleeper (2024). In its four-star review, The Observer described the album as a collection of songs that explored “all manner of emotionally charged situations, shaped into moving, dreamlike miniatures.”
Her voice has also been the subject of considerable praise. In a 2021 review of her second album, Already, Always, The Independent wrote:
“Her vocals have a crystal-clear quality … her delivery is ethereal and romantic.”
On May 23, Bess Atwell channels all her emotions into her music as she takes the stage at Ideal Bar.
