Cameron's breakthrough came in 2022 when he wowed both the judges and viewers on the show American Idol. He was just 18 at the time and revealed that he had never sung in public before his audition. His a cappella version of Waylon Jennings' "Rock, Salt and Nails" won the heart of judge Katy Perry and sent him on to the competition, and although Whitcomb didn't make it to the finals, he still managed to use the attention from the show to build a large online presence, especially on TikTok, where he now has over 1 million followers.

In 2023, he released the single “Shoot Me Dead,” and in 2024, he followed up with hits like “Rocking Chair” and “Quitter.” The latter was sent to radio in Canada, the UK, and Australia and marked his first hit on the Canadian Hot 100. In September 2024, Whitcomb released his debut EP Quit, and in November of the same year came the single "Medusa". On March 7. 2025, Cameron released his latest single "Options".
