Red wine marinated melancholy rock with The National frontman Matt Berninger
With their red wine-marinated melancholic rock, The National has long since become a bit of a live institution in Denmark, where they have given numerous concerts throughout their career and can now fill the country's largest arenas.
At the front of the group is Matt Berninger with his dark, ore-filled, but also empathetic vocals and poetic lyrics that, behind his associative images, original love metaphors and deadpan humor, hide deep emotional stories. Politiken has very aptly called him "rock music's most beautiful dark mullet".
Although The National is a strong working community, several of the members have also pursued other musical projects, including Matt Berninger. In 2015, the album was released Return to the Moon together with Brent Knopf (Menomena), released as the duo EL VY, and in 2020 he released his solo debut Serpentine Prison with production assistance from soul legend Booker T. Jones (Booker T. & the MG's). The result is a collection of beautiful, subdued songs that GAFFA awarded 5 stars and called "an insanely atmospheric and pleasant-in-that-melancholic-way album".
Now Berninger is giving birth to her second album under her own name, which bears the title Get Sunk and is scheduled to be released in May. In this connection, he will go on a solo tour, presenting the new tracks live – and in this connection, his many Danish fans will of course not be cheated.
On Friday, September 5, The National singer can be experienced in an intimate setting when he takes the stage at Store VEGA.
