American indie darlings take over VEGA
Japanese Breakfast, whose latest album Jubilee was nominated for two Grammy's, will give a concert on June 26th at Store VEGA with the songs from the new album For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women). Over the course of a decade, Japanese Breakfast has moved from the American underground to the top of the global indie charts and from obscure avant-garde clubs to the world's largest arenas, such as the Arena tent at Roskilde Festival, which they took over in 2023. Now the American indie darlings are returning to Denmark when they give a very special concert this summer with songs from their fourth studio album, which will be released later this year.
For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women), as the new full-length has been named, was produced by Blake Mills (Fiona Apple, Bob Dylan) and recorded at the legendary Sound City studio in Los Angeles, where iconic works such as Neil Young's After the Gold Rush and Nirvana's Nevermind previously brought to life.
The new album presents a band moving in new artistic directions compared to the big breakthrough album Jubilee from 2021, which catapulted the indie rockers into the mainstream and secured the group two Grammy nominations for “Best Alternative Music Album” and “Best New Artist”.
On For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) takes Japanese Breakfast's creative powerhouse and lead singer Michelle Zauner into more melancholic and poetic waters with inspiration from, among other things, European Romanticism and Renaissance, murder ballads, landscape painters such as Edgar Degas and Caspar David Friedrich, and the authors Emily Brontë and Thomas Mann.
For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) will be released later this year, and in addition to a new album, the group's Danish fans can also look forward to experiencing Zauner & co. live this summer, when Japanese Breakfast takes over Store VEGA on June 26th.
