Greg Freeman breathes new life into the melancholic darkness of the past in VEGA
Greg Freeman paints with dark colors and writes emotionally charged indie rock that both grips and lifts.
With a rooted melancholy and a poetic calm, the American singer released her debut album I Looked Out (2022). Even through tragedy and heartbreak, Freeman is able to find solace and stand tall. Freeman's background in religion and anthropology at the University of Vermont, provided inspiration for the album through its expressive lyricism and mood.
Now the indie singer is back with his upcoming EP Burnover, where he combines noisy indie rock with restless energy. The EP is the result of hard work and honesty. The endless drives across the northeastern United States made his thoughts revolve around identity, belonging and the home he had left and found. Here, Freeman uses the great open spaces of the northeast to sing about grief, alienation and the clarity that comes when you open yourself up to love.
The indie singer proves that he has a special ability to translate the mythology and history of his homeland into something that feels both personal and universal.
