Robert Forster lets the light into VEGA
With a keen ear for feather-light melody lines, the former The Go-Betweens member will take over Lille VEGA on September 27, 2025.
Both as a supporting member of the rock group The Go-Betweens and as a frontman in his own right, Robert Forster has scratched musical genius into the paint on several records from the late 70s to the present day. Musically, Forster is deadly inciting with a rock universe packed with sharp and beautiful melodies that march into the listener's ear canals - always with a bright and optimistic vocal. Forster seeks the cracks in the darkness and lets the light in.
After The Go-Betweens disbanded in 1989, inspiration struck Forster again. Throughout the 90s, the musician recorded a handful of cuts, and between 2007 and 2023, Forster entered the studio again and breathed life into four albums of original material. The Evangelist (2008), Songs To Play (2015) and Inferno (2019) saw the light of day, and the album Candle And The Flame (2023) has most recently been added to the string of releases. New tunes are now in the pipeline, and in May this year, the album Strawberries will land.
The Guardian was very enthusiastic about Candle And The Flame and gave it five stars and the following statement:
"Forster has always been an incurable optimist. Even in the bleakest times, he will look to better ones ahead. Flamboyant on stage, behind the scenes he sought out, and achieved, a quiet, stable life. If that sounds boring, you should hear him sing about it. It's not very rock'n'roll. It's a lot more interesting and enduring than that.”
When Forster takes to the road with Strawberries in his arms, he is flanked by his Swedish buddies, who form the musical backdrop to Forster's luminous vocals:
“I am enormously excited to be touring with a rock band again. The first time in six years. And not just any rock band - there are the genius Swedish players from my new album 'Strawberries', recorded in Stockholm. I love the album, and I wanted to bring the group with me out on the rock and roll highway. We are wanting to impress.”
