Blondshell kicks the door into the innermost chamber of the heart in Lille VEGA
With her guitar tuned to melancholy and grand choruses, American singer-songwriter Blondshell writes raw and honest compositions that pierce the heart. Blondshell, whose real name is Sabrina Teitelbaum, released a self-titled debut album in 2023 to great acclaim. The album received a full plate in the NME review and impressed The Guardian, which showered Teitelbaum with stars with the headline “an alt-star is born”. Blondshell began to shine on the musical radar again last year with the singles “What's Fair” and “T&A” from the album follow-up If You Asked For A Picture, which is set for release on May 2 of this year.
Symptomatic for Blondshell's songwriting is the consistent thematic approach to lyrics filled to the brim with self-examination entangled in nonchalant humor. The musician's lyrical universe is conveyed in an uncompromising indie rock universe that, despite the melancholic and painful themes, also exudes hope and strength.
Blondshell is a musical alias that personifies the angriest and most vulnerable side of Teitelbaum. Blondshell is a woman who knows where the past hurts the most, and instead of looking away, she studies it and confronts it in her music.
Growing up in New York in the early 00s in a chaotic home, Teitelbaum found solace from his tumultuous life in the music of luminaries such as Patti Smith, Joy Division and The Velvet Underground. Since then, Teitelbaum has tuned his ears to the sounds of the master of melancholy Elliott Smith and the pop magician Imogen Heap and began performing their songs at open mic events in Manhattan. To the sounds of Tracy Chapman and Sophie B. Hawkins, Teitelbaum discovered his sexuality and found confidence in his queer identity with the Lower East Side as a backdrop. Music has always been Teitelbaum's faithful companion.
