A moving journey through grief with Alan Sparhawk
Throughout a career spanning three decades, Alan Sparhawk has been a relentless and experimental musician, constantly seeking new musical landscapes and challenges. He is best known as one half of the legendary band Low, and on this evening he will present his personal solo project, which has followed the band's dissolution upon the death of his wife.
Alan Sparhawk has more to his CV than Low's legendary records and the distinctive, understated sound that has touched hearts around the world. His musical journey has also taken him through a host of side projects, experimenting with everything from punk and funk to production and improvisation. After losing Mimi Parker, Sparhawk's other half in life and music, to cancer in 2022, Sparhawk has written the album WHITE ROSES, MY GOD – a work that clearly bears the mark of his grief, but also of a search for musical renewal and emotional redemption.
WHITE ROSES, MY GOD is an album filled with Alan Sparhawk's well-known curiosity, and written and recorded by Sparhawk alone. It is clear that he has channeled his grief and his need to create something that is both personal and universal. A few months before Parker's death in 2022, Low played in VEGA, and now Sparhawk returns alone. When the album's heartfelt tones fill Little VEGA, they will strike right to the heart and create a particularly moving space where grief can be shared through the powerful communication of music.
