The premises of pop music are challenged by d4vd in VEGA
David Burke, by stage name d4vd , has in recent years distinguished himself as one of the most interesting new voices at the intersection of indie, alternative pop and R&B. His breakthrough came in 2022 with the melancholic and raw single "Romantic Homicide", recorded on an iPhone in his little sister's wardrobe. The song struck a chord with Generation Z, became a viral hit and has now surpassed 1.5 billion streams on Spotify.
The seeds of d4vd's sound were planted in a place where great art rarely emerges: on a YouTube channel dedicated to Fortnite gameplay. A passionate gamer, he uploaded videos to the web, but repeated copyright issues with the music he used meant that the content was often removed. His mother suggested that he start making his own soundtracks instead – and that was the beginning of a career that has since taken him from his teenage bedroom to opening for SZA and a spot on Billboard's 21 Under 21 list.
d4vd's universe is driven by strong lyrics, visual storytelling and a DIY aesthetic that shines through in both audio and visual language. The EPs Petals To Thorns and The Lost Petals have both garnered praise for their atmospheric and genre-breaking productions in magazines such as Rolling Stone and Variety.
The debut album will be released on April 25th. Withered, which later this year will form the basis for his first major world tour.
The tour will bring him to Store VEGA on October 3rd, where the audience will have the opportunity to experience an artist who shapes pop music on his own terms.
