Top-shelf electropop with Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul in VEGA
After the critically acclaimed debut album, Topical Dancer (2022), is the electropop duo Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul now ready with new sparkling music. The album frontrunner, the single, “Googoo Gaga”, has been shining in the disco ball’s glow since September, and an album titled, Mainland Madinina, is set for release in February next year.
The upcoming release was written in Belgium and Martinique and, like their debut album, is co-produced with the music group Soulwax. On the album, the duo explores grief, parenthood, diaspora and colonial history. Musically, Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul move through genres such as house, synthpop, postpunk and intense ballads.
The duo, based in Ghent, are inspired by musical icons such as Grace Jones and David Byrne and have been hailed by The Guardian as “club provocateurs”.
On Topical Dancer Adigéry and Pupul presented the audience with a bold, seductive and undeniably groovy collection of songs, while also taking a humorous approach to racism, misogyny, postcolonialism and vanity on social media. Pitchfork proclaimed Topical Dancer for Best New Music, reviewed the album to great acclaim and summarized with surgical precision the duo's ability to combine sweaty, danceable songs with impactful and intelligent social criticism:
"The Belgian duo's debut album pairs punchy, propulsive electro pop with inventive sound design, absurdist wit, and sly jabs at racism and xenophobia."
On March 10, the audience in Lille VEGA will have their hips moving when Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul bring the hall to the boiling point with their irresistible, distinctive electropop.
