When melancholy is most beautiful
Kayak consists of Eva Berghamar, Carl Magnus Olsen and Albert Odgaard. Together they release sparkling indie pop songs based on a shared vision of writing Danish-language songs where presence is at its zenith.
The band is currently popular with the single “Ind I Solen”, where the band lets in the light with an uptempo beat and sunshine-filled melodies.
The sound of Kayak is both theatrical and intimate, floating between synth layers, airy vocals and experimental guitar figures. Between the beautiful atmospheric layers Berghamar's beautiful lyrical verses dance - honest, insistent and written with a courage that contains both doubt and hope.
Kayak really hit the music scene with the release of the catchy singles “Svært Ikke At Forsvinde” and “Stories”, which became P3’s Uundgåelige. It all culminated when the trio released their debut EP, Under Eyelids, which sent them out to the summer's big festivals and two sold-out Hotel Cecil concerts in September.
On the EP, Kayak opens the doors to a universe that balances between great melancholy and hopeful longing. The four songs are very different, but together they paint a picture of what it means to be young.
Kayak will challenge the average pop listener – but also embrace them. Amidst synth surfaces, noise and fragility, they find a nerve that hits right where the music feels most human.
With a curious approach to producing music, the trio strives to explore the framework of their own understanding of the genre – but beneath the surface, a love for the good, classic pop song always hides.
