Madra Salach bring a wave of euphoria and Irish folklore to VEGA
Madra Salach have generated massive hype on the international music scene with their experimental approach to traditional Irish folk music. Their distinctive sound brings together elements of synth, ambient, heavy drones, distortion and crackling electronica in a wonderfully unexpected way.
On January 15, their highly anticipated debut album, Gorta, will be released on the influential and legendary record label Island Records.
The album explores heritage and what we carry with us from previous generations. Deeply rooted in Irish folk music, the record also ventures into darker, more experimental and contemporary musical territory.
Frontman Paul Banks delivers powerful and emotive vocal performances, while the band are known for creating magical live experiences where Irish folklore and mysticism blend with a generous dose of tongue-in-cheek humour.
The band have supported their mighty fellow Dubliners Fontaines D.C. and performed at countless major festivals, including this year’s Roskilde Festival, where GAFFA awarded them five stars and wrote:
“And as it turned out, the afternoon concert by one of the latest additions to the Irish neofolk scene would become a mixture of playful banter and deeply serious, melancholic music, an essential part of the folk music tradition of the British Isles.”
In 2026, the band released their critically acclaimed debut EP, It’s a Hell of an Age, which topped the Irish Independent Album Chart.
With tracks such as “Ribbon Factory” and their reinterpretation of the traditional folk song “Spancil Hill”, the band have made a major breakthrough and established themselves as one of the most promising acts on the thriving Irish neofolk scene. On February 5, you can experience them live at Lille VEGA.
