White Lies reintroduce themselves in VEGA
On the occasion of their upcoming tour, the trio behind White Lies released a brand new and long-awaited single “Nothing On Me”. The song is the first release after a 3-year hiatus since the 2022 album As I Try Not To Fall Apart.
Recorded in North London, the song is described by the band as a glimpse into the collaborative and present mind of White Lies. While the dynamic is a bit reckless, unstable and full of competing ideas, there is a disregard for all external influences, pressures and expectations. In other words, the band is riding without brakes or seatbelts.
The concept of the single is a complete rebirth and introduction to the latest from White Lies. The band themselves describe the music:
"The initial musical ideas came from having a synth sequence that is in a different time signature to the rest of the band. This is something I borrowed a lot from the 70's prog that I love and listened to a lot during the making of this record. The rhythm is a classic motorik beat borrowed from the krautrock that we all love and is a motif we've used a lot across our careers in White Lies. The guitar melody is almost jolly and absurdist like the nursery rhyme or something you'd hear an ice cream van playing”.
The lyrics reflect the difficulties we can all have in relating to people, even when they are close to us, especially in an argument or disagreement, and how overwhelming it can be.
“Nothing On Me” is just a taste of what’s to come from the London-based trio. Having released their much-loved and acclaimed debut, To Lose My Life... in 2009, White Lies have undoubtedly become one of the biggest guitar bands in the UK.
In the past decade, the band has also established themselves globally with sold-out tours in Europe and internationally.
