The Flaming Lips perform their iconic album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
The American rock band The Flaming Lips was founded in Oklahoma City in 1983 by Wayne Coyne, his brother Mark and Michael Ivins. Since then, they have become one of the most iconic, influential, unpredictable and important acts in alternative rock music in the United States. The band has won three GRAMMY® Awards, a Tony nomination and an RIAA Gold certification for Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (2002).
When The Flaming Lips come to Store VEGA in 2025, it will be precisely to pay tribute and perform the iconic album, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. The album is a sci-fi inspired concept album consisting of The Flaming Lips' most playful and heartfelt songs thrown into a wondrous whirlwind of ambient electronic sounds, digital beats and psychedelic splendor. The album also features the band's most streamed song, "Do You Realize??".
Besides Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots The Flaming Lips have also released other critically acclaimed albums such as The Soft Bulletin (1999) and most recently American Head (2020). American Head saw the band return to a more melodic and song-oriented approach to music.
The album received massive critical acclaim and has been called their best release in years. It ended up on several "best of the year" lists around the world, also in DK where it was named foreign album of the year by Ekstra Bladet.
It is not only on the publishing front that the band is still in top form, but also on stage. The Flaming Lips are known for their experimental and psychedelic style, as well as their spectacular live performances, which often include colorful costumes, confetti, balloons and wild visual effects. UK's Q Magazine named them on their list as one of the “50 Bands to See Before You Die.”
