The amazing The Mary Wallopers, who have previously visited Tønder Festival and Roskilde Festival, will give a concert at Store VEGA on February 3, 2027 with songs from the new album Paddywhackery.

They have been compared to The Pogues themselves, and The Guardian has called them “a live sensation.” And there’s a reason for that: The Mary Wallopers are taking the world by storm with their amazing blend of captivating Irish folk music, punk energy, and an anti-authoritarian attitude that’s not afraid to speak up against the powers that be.

The group was formed in 2019 in the Irish provincial town of Dundalk around a stormy love for classic Irish folk icons such as the Dubliners, the Clancy Brothers and The Chieftains. At the same time, the members, like the legendary Shane MacGowan and the rest of the punk-poetic The Pogues, are driven by a desire to challenge genre conventions with a socially critical sting. As they have stated to The Irish Times: “Folk was never supposed to be safe”.

For The Mary Wallopers, folk music is a rebellious voice to speak out against oppression and social inequality; an opportunity to rebel against blatant injustice. They support the Palestinian cause, have criticized British colonialism, and their brand new album Paddywhackery – which is released on September 18th and is produced by James Skelly of The Coral – is named after a derogatory term for Irish people.

A large part of The Mary Wallopers' growing popularity is their fabulous concerts, carried by a towering energy level and infectious musical virtuosity, which the audience at Tønder Festival 2023 and Roskilde Festival 2025 has been able to witness. Now the Irish folk rebels are returning to Denmark, where they will give a concert on February 3rd at Store VEGA.
