Video Age paints Ideal Bar in synth-pop tones
Under the name Video Age Ross Farbe and Ray Micarelli make airy and timeless songs that combine inviting melodies with a penchant for everything from disco, pop and indie rock. Between them is the music, but the weight of a special friendship and songwriting partnership is also essential to the sound of Video Age.
On the duo's latest album, Away From The Castle (2023), the New Orleans duo have taken a step back from their previous discography's cult of nostalgic compositions, and instead a renewed refinement of their own unique musicality has emerged. Away From The Castle courting the art of songwriting in the 60s and 70s as well as the era's sense of singer/songwriter magic. An inspiration that Video Age weaves into their strong sense of synth-pop.
The album is the sound of the possibilities that arise when you step out of your comfort zone, of the freedom of writing vulnerable and unconscious and of the joy of working together with your closest friends. Away From The Castle is the sound of that band rediscovering their love of writing music together. At the same time, it is the duo's most honest and personal work to date. Video Age distilled to its purest form.
