Current Joys is alternative American rock at its best and most unpretentious. Nick Rattigan's musical alias may not be widely known, but since 2013 he has released a stream of strong songs and albums in the borderland between lo-fi, indie rock, singer/songwriter, country and folk.

That you can get far with hard, dedicated work without compromising your artistic ideals is emphasized by Current Joys' Spotify profile, which has over 7 million monthly listeners, and where the two biggest hits "Kids" and "Blondie" have over 400 million streams. Current Joy's latest album East My Love was released in 2024 via the style-setting indie label Secretly Canadian (The War On Drugs, ANOHNI, Yeah Yeah Yeahs).

Here, Rattigan delves into country, folk and singer/songwriter with an exquisite virtuosity and sensitive empathy that evokes memories of Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes and Jason Molina (Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co.). In addition to touring in both the US and abroad, 2025 for Current Joys featured a bare-bones cover of Nirvana's unflinching "In Utero" track "Dumb" and the downright melodic single "Road Song".

Earlier this year, Rattigan uploaded a photo on Facebook from his home studio with the words: "Listening to new record. No idea when it will come out. But it's done."

It's hard to interpret it any differently than that there's new music on the way from his hand! Current Joys gave a sold-out concert at Stengade 30 in 2022, and after a four-year wait, the American indie unique is finally returning to our latitudes when Rattigan and his band take over Store VEGA on August 17th.
