Rap star ready to take over VEGA
A sweat-dripping intense show is planned when JPEGMAFIA takes over Store VEGA in January. Not only is the American rapper one of the modern hip-hop scene's most exciting, experimental and enigmatic artists; live, he is known as a riveting and rowdy one-man army who does everything to give the audience an experience.
When he visited NorthSide in 2023, GAFFA thus characterized the show as "a high-energy jumble of beats, rhymes and moshpit" in their four-star review, while Soundvenue also awarded four big stars and called JPEGMAFIA "a fantastic party starter".
JPEGMAFIA debuted in 2016 with the debut Black Ben Carson and has since – with a number of excellent albums, EPs and collab releases – carved out his very own corner on the American hip-hop scene, where the combination of lofi noise, internet aesthetics, quirky samples, innovative productions and associative lyrics creates a unique expression.
JPEGMAFIA also visits Denmark in peak artistic form. In 2023, he released the album Scaring the Hoes together with rap colleague and soulmate Danny Brown. A creative tour de force that stands as a masterpiece for both rappers, and where JPEGMAFIA's formidable productions and laid-back flow play perfectly against the partner's raving word flows.
The reviewers were also enthusiastic. Soundvenue honored it with five sparkling stars and wrote: “JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown (…) embrace their status as geeks. Their first album as a collective unit is a frontal attack on conformity, and it has rarely felt so good to be an outsider”.
At the end of the year, the same media proclaimed Scaring the Hoes as the year's sixth best album, Information also highlighted it as one of the year's best albums, and internationally Rolling Stone, The Guardian, DIY Magazine and Pitchfork have praised the release among others. So it is a rapper at the top of his game, who is ready to fire up his Danish fans when he fills Store VEGA.
