Julie Ellinor fills VEGA with honest indie pop
If you too have been struck by the Danish Julie Ellinor's characteristic voice and honest indie pop universe, there is almost an obligation to show up at Lille VEGA at the end of November. It is in fact the only concert the singer, songwriter, and guitarist will play in 2024.
Intensity and nerve are clearly noticeable for the listener in her songs, where there is space in the guitar layers, the synthesizer sound is dusty, and the bass is insistent.
She released the debut album, Reality's Got Nothing On Illusion, last year from which the singles “Dreamer” and “Selfish Wishes” were popular hits. The album followed the EPs Cause And Effect and Flares In The Dark from 2022 and 2020, respectively.
The music magazine Gaffa had Julie Ellinor on their list of Danish artists they believe will become big in 2023, and when they reviewed her concert at last year's SPOT Festival, the show lived up to expectations. It received five out of six stars and the following praise:
“The concert starts with the catchy ”Antidote” from Cause and Effect. The band plays well, and Julie Ellinor's crisp vocals are given plenty of space. The band transitions into ”Oblivion". Julie Ellinor appears confident and in control, both vocally and in the role of front person. She is present, makes good eye contact with her audience, and sings excellently.”
