Multi-artist guests VEGA with hyperpop tones
Alice Longyu Gao (they/them) has created a world that inspires their generation in music, fashion and art. They play the harp, sing, produce music, DJ and are recognized globally for being one of the pioneers who defined the genre of hyperpop. Furthermore, via their events and art performances, they orchestrate a culture and a society that supports the genre.
They were born and raised in China, but have been living in the USA for the past several years. Relocating to Los Angeles, they released their critically acclaimed EP - Let's Hope Heteros Fail, Learn, and Retire.
Alice Longyu Gao has been a DJ at MoMA, Parrish Art Museum and Galerie Perrotin, among others. They have provided soundtracks for fashion shows and events such as Acne Studios at Paris Fashion Week and Juicy Couture at New York Fashion Week.
Their art practice also inspires other fields such as video games, TV and film, anime and AI. For example, Electronic Arts invited Alice Longyu Gao to write and sing a song in Simlish for The Sims 4. The streaming service Hulu also asked Alice Longyu Gao to write and sing a song for the LGBTQ+ TV Series Love, Victor.
Alice Longyu Gao wants to create art until the day they die, and they hope that their music and art will continue to challenge and inspire humanity for a long time.
