Griff once again breaks into the pop stratosphere in VEGA
When Griff delighted Little VEGA in March, it was on the back of the release of yet another hit for her growing catalog. “Miss Me Too” was released earlier this year to huge praise from critics.
“Griff exists in the lineage of Lorde’s hyper-specific and emotional lyricism, as well as Taylor Swift’s knack for a killer hook” - Rolling Stone
The song sweeps away with a captivating beat, while the existential lyrics deal with the irony of seeing a decline in the self-confidence account, when it supposedly should go the opposite way as one gets older and wiser. The single was one of the front runners for her upcoming debut album, Vertigo, set to be released on July 19th.
Before the singer's debut album had a name, the album was encapsulated by a feeling; vertigo. The dizziness that settles in the stomach and turns the world upside down, while one futilely tries to find a point of reference. The feeling encapsulates the whole journey of self-discovery that Griff has invited her fans on through her songs.
Vertigo is about growing up and the complex emotions it can bring. The singer takes the tumultuous inputs and turns them into a strength. Throughout the album's 14 songs, Griff draws on experiences from her life starting as the child of Jamaican and Chinese parents, where she looked more inward than participated in social activities – to today, where she tours the world after starting her career in her bedroom.
Griff's big breakthrough came with the piano-led single “Good Stuff” (2020), but also “Black Hole” the following year truly cemented her talent and became a major streaming hit. She most recently released the EP ver2igo vol. 2.
Florence + the Machine, Ed Sheeran, and Dua Lipa have benefited from Griff as a supporting act, and so did Coldplay last summer when they had the singer with them at their concert in Parken.
