Clarissa Connelly wraps VEGA in experimental pop songs
Danish/Scottish Clarissa Connelly has continuously explored her music since her debut in 2018. The universe is a spherical mix of Nordic folk songs, medieval chants, and modern pop music. The multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, and songwriter released her third album in April World of Work.
She models new and old styles for an escape into a wonderful otherworldly fantasy. The album is Connelly's first release on the iconic English record label Warp.
Music Resident Advisor wrote the following in their review of the single "Wee Rosebud", which was the first single from World of Work:
"The distinctly Scottish lyrics, delivered with the utmost delicacy, immediately transport the listener to the banks of a loch, or a candle-lit bothy after sunfall. It's the work of an artist on a sharp upward trajectory.”
The inspiration for World of Work the multi-instrumentalist has found in dreams, literature, and meditative walks that allow the songs to explore the metaphysical universe of the soul.
Connelly gained great attention with the album, The Voyager (2021), which among other things earned her a Nordic Music Prize at the by:Larm festival.
At last year's Roskilde Festival, she curated daily choir performances under the concept Clarissas Canons, which included performances with Erika de Casier, Astrid Sonne, and Henriette Motzfeldt (Smerz).
