KESHAVARA fills VEGA with dreamy soundscapes
KESHAVARA mixes Kraut-pop inspired by library compositions and psychedelic soundtracks, dub-not-dub excursions and sweetly meandering melodies with grooves from a rhythm section that could have felt at home in the funky music studios of Beirut in the mid-seventies. The result are cocktails crowned with a surreal sugar rim that evokes the effect of a hallucinogenic Jell-O. Music that flickers like a mirage in the desert.
The project has gone from being a solo project by the German-Indian musician Keshav Purushotham to now being a band. The first spark came from an artist residency organized by the Goethe Institute that took him to his second home in South India in 2013. In search of his roots, the debut album took Keshavara form in the coastal cities of Chennai, Pondicherry and Auroville.
The overwhelming response to the album led to the formation of the ensemble KESHAVARA in 2017, with Keshav Purushotham (vocals, guitar), Niklas Schneider (drums, percussion), Benedikt Filleböck (keyboards) and Christopher Martin (bass).
In 2020, Keshavara was honored with the prestigious popNRW Award in the "Outstanding Artist" category and introduced Kabinett der Phantasie on stage for the first time. Here they weave music, acting and choreography together into a vaudeville-inspired, avant-garde spectacle.
Several acclaimed performances followed, with Purushotham, Schneider, Filleböck and Martin increasingly finding each other. While KESHAVARA's debut was originally a solo project and the sequel Kabinett der Phantasie primarily a duo project, the third album is simply titled III a true band album.
