Funky fairy tales shower in VEGA with Leenalchi
Leenachi have just announced their brand new EP Here Comes That Crow, which is set for release on June 12. With the release, the band once again invites the listener into a colorful musical universe, where epic tales of virtue, sorrow and dragon kings are carried by exuberant new wave elements.
The music in Leenalchi is inspired by pansori, a traditional Korean style of musical storytelling often compared to opera. Pansori is told in an ancient version of the Korean language. Imagine a musical version of Hamlet added to a juicy, hypnotic bass hook, bubbling synth, and funky rhythms.
As part of the pansori singers' vocal training, they spend time singing next to a waterfall. The singer is tasked with carefully observing and imitating the sonic nuances of the water. The gurgling, the roaring, and the rushing are all sonic characteristics of the waterfall that are incorporated into Leenalchi's unique universe.
The lineup is as unique as their sound, consisting of two bassists, drums, keyboards and four singers. The band gained international attention with the hit “Tiger Is Coming”, which went viral and introduced their unique universe to a global audience.
It will be an evening where tradition and the present merge into an explosive sound experience when Leenalchi plays out the adventure in Lille VEGA on November 18th.
