Melodic indie pop with nuances of dream and emotion
Roller Derby is both the name of a feminist roller skating sport and the namesake of the pop duo from Hamburg, whose music bridges nostalgic 80s sounds with modern indie pop. Their musical inspirations range from the 60s and 80s to current artists like Angel Olsen, Alvvays and Beach House.
Roller Derby has achieved numerous milestones since their formation, including sold-out concerts in Hamburg, Berlin and London, as well as appearances at renowned festivals such as the Reeperbahn Festival, Appletree Garden Festival and Dockville Festival.
Since May 2024, Roller Derby has released "Dreams" and "Silver Jet", the first singles from their debut album When The Night ComesThe album is produced by Moses Schneider and will be released on February 28, 2025.
Their new single "Ready To Forget" deals with themes of change and acceptance, adding a fresh energy to the duo's ever-evolving sound while simultaneously showcasing a previously unknown, harsher tone. Roller Derby's trademark shimmering synthesizer sounds and dreamy guitar riffs merge with a driving, danceable groove. Philine Meyer's ethereal vocals soar through the song, asking when it's time to let go: "When is our time to go / Are you ready to forget me?"
