Triumphant indie experiments from The Notwist
The Notwist are known for their unpredictable and captivating concerts. The band considers studio recordings as opportunities to be further explored when performing live.
This is particularly true for last year's release Live from the Alien Research Center, which is a live album made under unusual circumstances. The band rearranged the songs from the ambitious and critically acclaimed album Vertigo Days from 2021 in their studio in Weilheim.
The band's self-titled debut from 1990 celebrated the American hardcore and grunge bands they fell in love with as youngsters. But over the years, the fascination for electronic music has gained ground with the trio, resulting in the masterful release Shrink from 1998, which is a beautiful eclectic mix of trip-hop, post-rock, and IDM.
In 2002, the band brought together their musical inspirations into a beautiful and coherent mosaic in the form of the album Neon Golden, which became their breakthrough record. The critically acclaimed release perfected the organic blend of heartfelt songwriting with electronic instrumentation.
The creation was filmed and recorded, and the result is spontaneous krautrock collages and psychedelic excesses, revealing new vibrant sides of the songs on Vertigo Days.
When Vertigo Days was released in 2021, it received dazzling reviews from, among others, Dusted Magazine, who wrote:
“As the music comes full circle, Vertigo Days forms a satisfying whole. On subsequent spins, more and more subtle threads and parallels become apparent, highlighting the craftsmanship The Notwist have invested in what may prove to be their finest album to date.”
