Heartbreaking folk songs from Paris Paloma at VEGA
On August 30, the eminent singer-songwriter Paris Paloma will release her debut album, entitled Cacophony. Throughout the 15 tracks, she delves into themes of grief, love, patriarchy and trauma.
British singer Paris Paloma channels the experience of femininity into her songwriting and speaks to the female experience. In her lyrical universe, she brings together beautiful and heartfelt mosaics drawn from mythology, art history and romanticism.
Through the ethereal songs, the listener floats through elements of sublime elements of chamber pop and folk. Last year, she released the beautiful hit anthem “Labor”, which addresses issues of gender inequality in our societal structures. Paris Paloma's ear-catching melodies soar over a beautiful backdrop of bass, guitar and high-pitched choral arrangements.
The song focuses on the history of women doing unpaid domestic work, especially housework and child rearing, and criticizes patriarchal expectations of women within marriage.
It also explores concepts such as armed incompetence and the cycle of abuse. The debut single is the first to be recorded in a recording studio and follows on from a series of delicious singles recorded in her own bedroom. “Labor” has already hit over 100 million streams on Spotify and has taken a massive victory lap on TikTok and the US Billboard Chart.
