Cassandra Jenkins hugs away your November blues
When Cassandra Jenkins gently taps on your eardrums with her distinctive voice, you are never in doubt that it's her. Or that you are on your way to be in excellent, good musical company. Her intimate universe embraces you, like a hug of folk and ambient pop.
The singer's latest album, An Overview on Phenomenal Nature, from 2021, emphasized Jenkins' talent with its overwhelming reviews. Pitchfork awarded it the "Best New Music" label, and The New York Times wrote; "lyrically it's sublime." Back home, Politiken named it the album of the week with a five-heart review, concluding with the following words:
"With the shimmering and intimate 'An Overview on Phenomenal Nature,' Cassandra Jenkins has created a little gem of an album that I easily surrender to - just as she herself dissolves into the arms of strangers. And simply surrenders to the beauty of incidental music."
In the middle of April, the American artist announced that she will release a new album in July. It will be titled "My Light, My Destroyer". And the first single from this album, "Only One," is already available on streaming services.
With 13 songs, Jenkins curiously explores her music, reaching further and wider musically than before, according to her website. The tracks unfold between guitar-driven indie rock, jazz, new age, and sophisticated pop.
She also mentions a long list of friends who have helped her work on the album, including El Kempner from Palehound, Meg Duffy from Hand Habits, and producer and instrumentalist Josh Kaufman, who also contributed to An Overview on Phenomenal Nature.
