The word soul has been a recurring theme in The Thes' history; from frontman Matt Johnson's neo-psychedelic debut album Burning Blue Soul (1981), to its groundbreaking follow-up Soul Mining (1983), and now to the title of the band's upcoming 2024 Ensouled World Tour. The music group spans a variety of genres, including post-punk, alternative rock and electronic.

As such, The The has always made music that speaks to the soul and gives food for thought. Since forming in the late 70s, Matt Johnson has always sought to find the truth, whether it be on a personal or political level.

In the late 1970s, Johnson formed The The and began performing in London's alternative music scene. With hit singles like 'Uncertain Smile' and 'This Is the Day', it was Soul Mining that put The The on the musical map in 1983, but since then they have released several successful albums and toured the world.

To this day, they remain an iconic name on the British music scene, and although the band has been on hiatus several times, they are still building on their musical legacy. They visited Heartland Festival in 2018, where Politiken called the concert: "the best concert of the big concerts at this year's Heartland." In 2024, they will return to Denmark once again when they take over Store VEGA on September 15th.
