Moving black metal beauties from Agriculture
Since the release of the spectacular EP The Circle Chant from 2022, the band has sown seeds in the fertile metal soil and gathered a battalion of devoted fans worldwide. With their unorthodox instrumentation and their experimental stylistic freedoms, Agriculture have found a new and refreshing grip on the genre.
Last year, the band released the self-titled album, where they once again experimented with the pitch-black musical expression. Soundscapes of both lap steel and saxophone beautifully dance in harmony with the ultra-heavy black metal. In even the darkest passages, light breaks through and creates a magnificent and complex sound image of both hope and melancholy. On the lyrical side, the band revolves around transience and spirituality that washes over the listener like white-capped waves. The release has been swarming with praises and stars all over the world, where the album has burst eardrums. Exclaim Magazine wrote in their glowing review, for example:
“With this album, Agriculture has created one of the most exciting and inspiring metal debuts in recent memory; it's a release that deserves to be heard by anyone with even a remote interest in heavy music.”
Agriculture spins the listener into a world of blissful, transcendental compositions. Embedded in their wildness is a tenderness that most metal bands are downright afraid of. Agriculture insists on enjoying the things we can still love in a world that initially appears bleak and hopeless.
Support: NAKE
NAKE plays instrumental, progressive music imbued with cinematic grandeur. The band delivers a rhythmic complexity reminiscent of Tool, while other passages are lingering, closer to the dirty end of post-rock like Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
The music feels like a soundtrack to a fictional film in the listener's mind: themes played on analogue synthesizer recall 80s sci-fi soundtracks, and western-like guitar playing recalls Morricone's epic pieces of music.
NAKE has performed live with bands and artists such as Bruit ≤, Solbrud, A Burial At Sea, Jonathan Hultén, Offernat, Offermose and Ni. NAKE was also part of the programme at this year's A Colossal Weekend.
