True to tradition, Thomas Dybdahl sets the Christmas hearts on fire in VEGA
It wouldn't be real Christmas in VEGA without Thomas Dybdahl , and since 2004 he has enriched VEGA's Christmas atmosphere with eminent Norwegian live presence. This year is no exception, as the songwriter returns for the twentieth time. With him he brings his fantastic and versatile back catalogue of heartwarming songs with melodic backdrops of singing guitars and soaring strings.
Thomas Dybdahl debuted in 2002 with the album That Great October Sound and received the Norwegian Spellemansprisen (Norway's answer to a Grammy) for his work the following year. And since then he hasn't really managed to set a wrong tone.
The releases have been diverse and range from Nordic melancholic Americana on the debut to full-blooded soul and funk on the album Fever from 2020. Here, Dybdahl has left the acoustic guitar in the guitar case and has instead let the electric guitar set the tone.
Fever received 5 stars in GAFFA, and the unique guitarist's latest album Teenage Astronauts (2024) received four stars in GAFFA and was described with the words:
“Teenage Astronauts is a space journey against time, sending us into a youthful time bubble, where immortality and sorrow go hand in hand(...) The album is therefore an offer of a little time travel, which also offers an unusually high level of euphoria from the carefully tuned compositions and in many ways pain relief on a post-approval basis.”
On December 18, Thomas Dybdahl will gather the best of the best from his critically acclaimed and acclaimed back catalogue and will once again deliver an extremely present Store VEGA concert. And I wonder if the evening will also offer a Christmas carol or two.
