LIVEUROPE - THE EUROPEAN LIVE MUSIC PLATFORM FOR EMERGING ARTISTS

Europe's musical talent thrives and is represented in VEGA all year round. Liveurope, the first European initiative of its kind, supports venues and concert halls in presenting emerging artists and bands across the continent. VEGA, a member since 2014, organises around 50 Liveurope concerts annually.

Thanks to Liveurope, VEGA's concertgoers have access to a wide range of new and exciting music from European environments. Every year, promising new bands and musicians from all over Europe visit VEGA, where they can later become established stars with thousands of fans.

VEGA is a member of and proud co-founder of Liveurope, the first pan-European initiative supporting concert venues in their efforts to promote emerging European music. The platform makes it possible for venues all over Europe to work together. In collaboration with each other they can boost the diversity of the EU’s rich music scene. The core mission is to provide opportunities for fresh and talented European artists to play iconic stages an find their audience across borders.

Since Liveurope was born in 2014, the platform has grown and is today encouraging 24 of the most iconic European music venues to diversify their programs and seek out emerging European artists that are yet to be discovered. The platform provides a safety net to all the Liveurope venues in order to book more promising talents from all EU countries and brings them to our concert halls.

Since its launch, Liveurope has already supported over 4200 artists representing 40 European nationalities. Thanks to the platform's simple and progressive financial bonus system, the Liveurope venues have been booking on average 46% more emerging European artists since before the initiative started.

In other words, the acts that get the chance to perform today in the EU through Liveurope are the Mø’s, Christine and The Queens, and Rosalía’s of tomorrow. The platform works as a seal of quality awarded to live music venues committed to European diversity. When you go to a concert organised by the platform, you know you can expect a high quality production and that you’re supporting Europe’s diverse and promising artists.

The platform is co-funded by the Creative Europe Program of the European Union. It also regularly launches initiatives with national public bodies and foundations to boost the mobility of artists in particular regions. One of them is the Above 55° initiative, supported by the Nordic Culture Fund, that aims to increase the visibility and booking opportunities of young Nordic talent.  

Who are the Liveurope members? 
Liveurope is a membership organisation, bringing together international concert venues across Europe. The platform is coordinated by Ancienne Belgique, the internationally acclaimed concert venue located in the heart of Europe: Brussels.

The member venues are selected for their dedication to booking European talent, as well as their professional infrastructure. In addition, the platform helps to strengthen its position on the international music scene.

How does Liveurope work? 
Liveurope provides support in the form of a financial bonus to the member venues proportionally to their booking of emerging, non-national, European acts. The function of this mechanism is to give established concert venues the opportunity to programme emerging artists every year. The venues, in turn, are completely autonomous in their choice of programming and booking artists, as long as these acts are both emerging and European.    

What’s an ‘emerging artist’ in this context?  
In order to be considered as a ‘Liveurope supported’ performance, the artists need to have fulfilled a number of criteria. Firstly, the artists must be based on the European continent, must have proven a dedication and aspiration for an international music career and a professional artistic presence that cannot exceed 7 years. 

Moreover, the artists in question must have provided a valid demonstration of a professional entourage. To be eligible in the Liveurope mechanism, the artist in question must be from a country other than the one where the venue is established.   

What’s the ‘Creative Europe’ programme? 
The aim of the Creative Europe programme of the European Union is to support European cultural, creative, and audio-visual sectors. Liveurope, being one of the first initiatives co-financed by this programme, has the responsibility of bringing new artists and music to new audiences across European borders, supporting emerging musicians in their artistic career.
