Boundaries bring their uncompromising blend of brutality and beauty to VEGA
On their fifth album, Yearning: the unbeautiful after, released in July, Boundaries delve into the things we choose to spend our time on, the things we yearn for, and where those choices ultimately lead us. It is an album about desire, identity and consequences – but above all, it is a record made without compromise.
Boundaries came out swinging with the album’s first single, “Skies cast amber black”. Driven by choppy, downtuned guitars and punishing drums, the band charges forward as palm-muted riffs, frantic cymbals and ominous shrieks steadily ratchet up the tension.
At the other end of the spectrum, “Death will follow me” combines rapid double-kick drumming and hard-hitting riffs with a call-and-response between a guttural growl and a hypnotic chorus.
Heavymetal.dk calls the album “without a doubt, their most focused and ambitious release to date.”
And that is no small claim. Across several albums, Boundaries have established themselves as a band willing to push the boundaries of metalcore to its breaking point.
They stretch their sound almost to the point of collapse, balancing bursts of polyrhythmic mayhem with moments of powerful, emotionally charged melody. As extreme as their dynamics can be, it is the band’s relentless refusal to compromise that gives their distinctive sound its force and character.
Live, Boundaries are an intense and physical experience. Their ferocious outbursts are matched by moments of reflection and vulnerability. It is precisely in the tension between heaviness and beauty, control and chaos, that Boundaries find their unique voice.
