Colorful indie pop party with Chinese American Bear in VEGA
Behind Chinese American Bear are the married couple Anne Tong and Bryce Barsten, who create groovy and catchy pop songs in both English and Chinese from their home studio.
Together they have created a playful indie pop universe filled with strong harmonies and quirky pop references – a sound that has already secured the duo many millions of streams worldwide.
On May 8, the band will release their third album Dim Sum & Then Some. In a press release about the first single “All The People ( मानिर्भाग)” Bryce Barsten says:
"All The People (所京人) is probably my favorite song on the album. It's so fun, light, cool, and a little weird. It's a song for everyone. All the people. It has some fantasy vibes, musically and lyrically."
Chinese American Bear's sound is rooted in Barsten's love of psychedelic pop and Tong's classical background and ear for classic pop. Everything from MGMT, The Flaming Lips and Pond to Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers are therefore musical sources of inspiration for the duo.
On Dim Sum & Then Some they move effortlessly between soaring guitars, strings and electronic synth surfaces. The album explores even more than before how experimental elements intertwine with classic pop tones.
