Howe Gelb's Giant Sand & The DeSoto Caucus paints alternative rock tableaus in VEGA
A conglomeration of country, Americana and rock makes up Giant Sand s sonic universe. At the front of the alternative American rock band is guitarist and singer Howe Gelb, who formed the band in the early 1980s with Tucson, Arizona as a backdrop.
Giant Sand's discography is a diverse study of rock's genre corners, where both kaleidoscopic psychedelic tones and dusty desert rock dove from the turntable. The band's first cut, Valley of Rain, landed in 1985 and catapulted Gelb and Giant Sands on a musical journey that, with changing personnel and a diverse stream of records, has nailed Howe Gelb's heart child to the alternative rock wall.
With the plate Heartbreak Pass as of 2015, it has been nine years since Howe Gelb and his Danish cronies from The DeSoto Caucus were last in the studio, and in 2015 they took on the Glastonbury Festival together. In September, The DeSoto Caucus and Howe Gelb reunite to pick up where they left off immediately after their performance. The audience in VEGA now gets a chance to experience the rock ensemble when they revive "the Danish Giant Sand" and shed light on new material.
