Film School and Catch The Breeze shoegazes in VEGA
Film School
Since the end of the 90s, the American rock band has been a fixture on the international shoegaze indie scene. In 2023, they released their latest album, Field. The album cradles the listener in atmospheric soundscapes of magnificent guitar riffs, layered synths and ethereal vocals.
The album title is inspired by Rumi's poem A Great Wagon and delves into topics of regret, disconnection and frustration, as well as an acceptance that these feelings are a natural part of the struggle between uniting the inner and outer self. In the press release, the band writes about the album:
“Soaked in an emotionally open, imaginative atmosphere, the album is both singular and expansive, and leaves the door open for a constantly evolving interpretation.”
Inspired by post-punk, dreampop and a touch of electronica, the band started their experiments back in 1998. They were later signed to a major record label Beggars Banquet.
Catch The Breeze
The Danish band Catch The Breeze has delivered sharp alt-rock to the people for a number of years. In April, the band released the EP Spaces, which is the precursor to a full-length album to be released this fall.
Even while the previous album was being released, the band was working on new songs. Moods and styles swirled around the creative space of the rehearsal room and manifested in shoegazed and dreampopped alt-rock tracks. The music moves from gentle, open compositions, over complex accompaniment and counterplay, to swirling discharges of energy.
Feedback Studio has formed the framework for the recordings with Magnus Vad (Peter Sommer, Zar Paolom.etc.) behind the mixing desk. Mixing and mastering has been done by Morten Bue, and Kasper Staub from Lowly has provided magical synth on several of the tracks.
