Lubomyr Melnyk exhibits musical landscape paintings in VEGA
With an ultra-virtuoso ear for breathtakingly beautiful and complex melody lines, the Ukrainian pianist paints Lubomyr Melnyk unique soundscapes that, with their meditative quality, manage to put time and place out of play. Lubomyr Melnyk's piano music lies in the tension between the classical and neo-classical with his tendency to compose works with a particularly repetitive quality.
Melnyk's music is characterized by his unique approach to the piano. The Ukrainian pianist lets his fingers dance across the keys in a distinctive style called "Continuous Piano Music". The style fuses his ability to play extraordinarily fast with a minimalist and meditative expression. The technique causes the piano's notes to intertwine and unravel, creating unique and beautiful soundscapes.
Despite the difficulty and complexity of the music, Lubomyr Melnyk's compositions are as light and ethereal as they are dense and challenging. The music sounds accessible above all else, and that is precisely the exercise that Melnyk masters to perfection.
His musical works span a wide range of musical genres, and since 1980 Melnyk has released a multitude of albums, including the release The Sacred Thousand (2023), which is dedicated to the Ukrainian soldiers who held out against the Russian army for several weeks at the Azov Steel Plant in Mariupol.
At the concert in Store VEGA it is Melnyk alone behind the keyboard that the audience will experience; a true master and his piano.
