With a sound rooted in '90s pop-punk, the LA quintet Militarie Gun operates on a wide range of genres including hardcore, punk and pop. Frontman Ian Shelton himself describes the music as hardcore pop, but no matter where you place Militarie Gun's sound, there is no doubt that the distorted guitar and the blown-out drums will be banging when the band visits Ideal Bar on February 5th.

The band played at Roskilde Festival in 2023 and Loppen later that same year, touring with their debut album, Life Under the Gun, An introspective album that delves into generational trauma from Shelton's childhood life with family members' struggles with addiction.

Soon, the band's second album, God Save The Gun, will be released, and this is in many ways a spiritual continuation of the debut album. The lyrical universe still takes us deep into the lead singer's dark mind, but this time the focus is not on Shelton's loved ones, but rather on himself and his own internal struggles.

In this way, Militarie Gun's music is also a form of therapy for Shelton, who states in a press release:

"I'm a depressed person, so much of this has really just been about trying to find a distraction from that. At the end of the day it's not appropriate for me to talk about a lot of the things I see in my brain – it would bum people out – so the only place I have for this stuff is in these songs".
